EMV ramps up with migration roadmaps

Networks stress the need for a uniform migration path to chip in US.
MasterCard has followed rivalVisa in announcing a timelinefor EMV migration in the US.The roadmap stresses the needto advance the US electronic paymentsystem to the use of dynamic data for authenticating transactions. The EMV deadlines MasterCard has outlined are broadly similar to those announced by Visa last August.
MasterCard says it took note of the timeline of its rival payment network and was aware of the need for clear and consistent standards for banks and merchants in order for chip migration  in the so far EMV-resistant US to be achieved. MasterCard will require merchant acquirers to be equipped to handle EMV cards by April 2013.
As with Visa, MasterCard plans to introduce a merchant liability shift in October 2015 making non EMV-compliant retailers responsible
if counterfeit fraud occurs on a non-chip transaction. Starting in October 2013 MasterCard will allow merchant to reduce some PCI DSS security assessments if they upgrade to certain EMV terminals.
